Egg Incubator Information: Understanding the Proper Incubation of an Egg

Understanding the proper incubation of an egg is crucial and fundamental to ensuring that through the use of your egg incubator you produce healthy chicks. By understanding these facts and factors you will be in the position to ensure that you properly use your egg incubator and that you greatly enhance the chances of each of your eggs being brought forward to a full gestation.

First and foremost artificial egg incubation absolutely depends upon a well designed and well constructed egg incubator. Beyond a properly constructed egg incubator, egg incubation that is going to be successful absolutely depends upon your attention to detail.

The main areas of concern when it comes to successfully hatching eggs with your egg incubator include temperature, humidity, correct turning of the eggs, ventilation and cleanliness.

Generally speaking the temperature of the egg incubator should be between 96 and 98 degrees for most chicks. You really cannot allow a deviation from this temperature range. You certainly cannot allow the temperature deviate above this range or the unhatched chicks will die.

The humidity inside the egg incubator should be set at about 50 percent. While there can be some deviation, and humidity can be rather difficult to control in some instances, you do need to do your best to keep the humidity level at about 50 percent if at all possible.

It is incumbent upon you to properly and regularly turn the eggs that are in the egg incubator. If you fail to turn properly the eggs in the incubator, they will not successfully hatch. You should plan on turning the eggs four to five times each and every day. It is best to turn the eggs at regular intervals. Therefore, you will want to schedule this activity accordingly.

Ventilation is also key when it comes to the proper management of your egg incubator. You need to make sure that there is a decent flow of air through the incubator. However, understanding the importance of proper ventilation, you need to make sure that you do not disrupt the temperature in the process.

Finally, in order to ensure the proper gestation of the eggs in your incubator, you need to keep in mind the importance of making sure the egg incubator is kept in a clean condition. In particular, you need to make sure that bacteria inside the incubator is controlled because an accumulation of bacteria can have a harmful effect on the unhatched chicks.

By paying attention to these important - indeed, crucial - factors you will be in the best possible position to ensure that you end up with healthy chicks at the end of the gestation process.
